Redundancy and Isolated License Managers

It is possible to create a redundant License Manager pool consisting of isolated License Managers to provide failover on the customer site. Note the following requirements to create a redundant pool of isolated License Managers:

>All the isolated License Managers of a software vendor planned to be included in the pool must be running on different hosts in the network.

>By default, the generic License Manager uses port 5099 for transmission of the redundant license configuration file across the pool members. Therefore a suitable port, other than 5099, needs to be assigned or reserved during the License Manager customization activity (using the VLSchangeTFTPPortNumber customization API function). Note that there are no corresponding environment variables or startup options to allow later changes to the TFTP port on the customer end.

NOTE   Sentinel RMS License Manager uses port number 5093 and 5099. Make sure these ports are not blocked by a firewall. Otherwise, it may result in unexpected behavior.

>The system administrator must be educated to create a pool consisting of either isolated License Managers (of the same software vendor) or generic License Managers. A mixed pool consisting of both the types of License Managers is not recommended.
